Droidxi - Brewmaster Monk

Postby Droidxi » Mon Apr 30, 2018 9:28 pm

1. Character name, Server

Droidxi, Kil'Jaeden

2. Class, Race, and Spec (and Artifact Level)

Monk, Blood Elf, Brewmaster

3. Link to an Armory profile, and an explanation of anything that may not be readily apparent from your Armory profile (alternate sets of gear, currently PvP-specced, etc.)

https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/chara ... en/droidxi

4. What are your usual playing hours? Are there days/times when you are consistently unavailable? Inform us of your daily work/school schedule, what time do you get home from work/school, and what time must you be in bed for the next day. Are you able to make our raid times in general? Is this availability going to change within the next few months, or with a change in Semester (if applicable)?

My usual play hours are between 2pm EST and 12 pm EST. There is no day that is completely off limits as far as playing availability. My work schedule is from Saturday - Wednesday from 430am EST - 130pm EST. As long as I'm in bed by 1am EST I will be completely fine. As I recently got a new job working as the Head Chef in the county Hospital my days are set in stone.

5. Discuss your prior endgame raiding experience. Specify your experience with Heroic/Mythic in previous content as well as your experience in the current tier.

I started serious raiding when I was at the end stages of my Military career back towards the middle of TBC. I played in a guild called Secretfist - Zul'Jin. We killed Muru pre-nerf and eventually killed KJ. I played a feral druid back then. After TBC and Secretfist disbanded in WotLK I transfered to Zangarmarsh and created a guild called Echelon with some friends. We raided from mid Naxx 25 through Uldar 25. When we got to Yogg, we realized that we needed to downgrade to a 10M guild as pulling the weight of so many meant bosses were not dying quick enough. Therefore, we combined forces with the 2nd best guild on the server at the time and completed Ulduar 10 with all hardmodes completed.

After Ulduar and pretty much through MoP I was very casual. I mainly PVPed. The reasoning behind this was mainly due to real life getting in the way and a girlfriend that didn't appreciate me spending hours and hours each week on a video game.

Moving forward once i got red of said GF and I was able to move on with my life being stable in every aspect I was able to raid again. For most of WoD I was a PVPer again, but that all changed when I started selling Challenge Mode Dungeons and met up with many players from Seriously Casual - Sargeras (A). I started raiding with them mid HFC and we finished the tier at about US 110ish. I stayed with them until November of 2016, when my mother passed away. I needed to take some time off and unfortunately when I was finally able to come back to the game they had broken up for the most part. I believe they still raided until the start of NH but honestly not sure. I needed to move on.

I randomly xfered to Mal'Ganis (H) and met up with some random people looking to start a new guild for NH. The guild was called Bromocracy. We raided until Mythic Star Auguar where eventually we broke up. I had 2 decisions when this happened. One was stay with some Bromocracy players and start a new guild all over again or call upon some old friends from Seriously Casual. I did the second option and joined a guild called Vigil-Sargeras (A). The hours were going to be rough but I was going to try and manage it. Unfortunately, at the time my job had me working mid-days and after two weeks I decided it would not be good for me or the guild to continue with this trial because the times were way to stressful.

I decided to go back to Mal'Ganis and start a guild called Clean Kills with my fellow Bromocracy players. We raided M ToS to a great success. When we killed M Maiden we were World 666 ( only remember that because we thought it was funny as hell) and we definately felt this was a pretty strong start for a new guild. Once we got to Avatar Prog we started to encounter some attendance issues. With the fight being very specific with what you needed to bring we were running into issues of not having enough soakers and having to teach 27-32 people the fight as we progressed through it. About 4 or 5 weeks into Avatar Prog we were informed that 5 people decided to leave and raid with a guild called No Bads Allowed on Tichondrious. Within about 3 days I had about 4 more people come to me and the other officers saying that they were moving on. So we decided to disband.

After Clean Kills 5 raiders decided to xfer to a guild on Eredar called Whiskey Brigade. This was the only guild that could really handle what we wanted and that was for myself and my co-tank to be able to tank together. With our progress in Clean Kills and my current Mythic progress in the past this felt like a light years difference in players ability. My stay in WB did not last long. I believe I stayed until Imonar Progress.

I took some time off and joined a guild called WRONG on Tichondrious. When they recruited me they were just starting M Argus Progress. I progressed entirely through Argus and then 3 weeks after the kill. I came to find out that the recruitment officer of WRONG was trying to poach players from my former guild w/o even talking to me first. I talked with him and told them that I was not okay with it and decided to leave. That was disheartening because I did enjoy most of the players from the guild.

That led me to a guild called Rivalry - Kil'Jaeden. This was honestly a stretch for me as far as a work schedule but I was looking for a guild to continue Legion with and start with in BFA. I though I could manage staying up until 130 and raiding but that was not the case. I apologized and decided to end my trial.

6. Why do you want to leave your current guild? Why do you want to join us? Specifically, what interests you in our band of merry idiots?

Sorry I listed it above on why I left my current guild and previous guilds. I have come to the conclusion in my life that I want to raid end game content until this game is gone. With that being said I have to put real life and my job ahead of the game. That is why with my job secure I know what time I can raid / play and what times I can't. Spike Flail times are absolutely perfect for me. Ending raid between 11 or 12EST is great. It looks to be a very dependable guild with outstanding players that I believe I would fit perfectly into. When I was raiding with Bromocracy and Clean Kills we were always striving to catch the top guilds on Mal'Ganis. The old expression works here, "If you can't beat 'em join 'em"

7. Give us some info on your class knowledge and self performance analysis in this section:

First off I would have to say Brewmaster is an outstanding class with a balance of great aoe dps, ST dps, and a plethora of defensive cooldowns. Between mobility damage and defensives there is not alot that a brewmaster cannot handle. We are the best tank class hands down at taking huge hits (Argus for example). We excel at Imonar's Bridge, Vari's 3rd tank (teleporting back in), great aoe damage for fights like AHC, PK, and Eonar, mobility for fights like Garothi, Aggramar, and the ability to self dispel slows for Coven. Monks are a very flexible class that can perform well in just about any situation. One of brewmaster monks weakness however does show up on fights like Aggramar where when you have 8+ stacks you can definately get trucked if not prepared for it. Brews are great at taking huge hits but taking moderate hits where it does not benefit stagger as much can be as I said one of the few weakness of a brewmaster monk.

7a. What resources and practices do you use to keep up with your class and maximizing your DPS/HPS/Surivability?

The basics would be PeakofSerenity.com and the monk discord. However I am a huge fan of warcraftlogs. I like to get a feel for what other monks are using on specific fights or how other monks are surviving certain fights i.e. Maiden's solo smashes, Imonar bridge , and Argus Scythes. Being able to analyze how many casts you have performed compared to someone else with roughly the same kill time is huge. It lets you know if you are using a certain ability to it's maximum potential. Also being able to see if maybe you should hold certain CDs or abilities for certain portions of the fight. For example getting more add damage on AHC by holding your artifact and Diima's for the adds with 2 charges of Keg Smash. If you were not doing that before hand watching replays of all the top monks would show you that's what you should be doing.

7b. What fights in the current tier do you swap Talents and Legendaries to something different than the norm (if at all)? What do you swap and why? Feel free to list on a boss per boss basis.

My generic setup is: Chest/Shoulders while using Aggramar's Conviction and Diima's Glacial Aegis (970)
Talents would be Chi Torpedo, Ring of Peace, Dampen Harm, Rushing Jade Wind, and Blackout Combo

Garothi: No Change
Fel Hounds: Mystic Vitality over Dampen Harm (overall better mitigation against magic attacks)
AHC: No Change
PK: No Change
Eonar: No Change
Imonar: Invoke Niuzau, the Black Ox over Rushing Jade Wind (Would use Zen Med Helm if I 100% needed to survive the bridge, but usually survive w/o a problem currently) ,
Kin'garoth: Starting using Cinidaria, the Symbiote over the chest to parse higher for better add damage as long as not too many dps are on the tank add.
Coven: Tiger's Lust over Chi Torpedo to be able to self dispel the slowing debuff from the frost boss
Vari: Mystic Vitality over Dampen Harm
Aggramar: No Change
Argus: My only kill I went super defensive. I put on enough gear to become avoidance capped. Went High Tolerance over Blackout Combo ( easies out scythe damage) Used Gai Plin's Soothing Sash to healing back damage and also used the legendary Ring Jewel of the Lost Abbey. Jewel is by far the best defensive legendary brews have to smooth out damage taken.

7c. How do you analyze your performance on a new fight and figure out how/what you can improve on next week? Don't just say you use logs and compare to others of your class - what specifically are you looking for when you have a good/bad parse?

Great question. To analyze my performance for dps I like to compare how many casts I had of each ability versus how long the boss fight was. If the boss fight was 4 mins long and I only used my artifact ability twice then something is obviously wrong or if I only had an uptime of RJW say 60% I also know I am not paying attention to my weakauras enough. Checking the replay of the fights and finding out when the adds come out and seeing what I was using at the time. For example was I saving Keg Smash for adds or was I going into an add phase w/o a KS charge up. Making sure I had close to 100% uptime on Ironskin Brew (active mitigation). During real high damage times making sure I am pausing stagger with Blackout combo as opposed to using blackout combo for damage. Everything can be analyzed and the only way to really get better is to make sure you are checking behind yourself pull to pull making sure you know exactly why you died or how you could of got more damage output by holding dps CDs for a perfect time.

8. Please include your character log report showcasing your performance on the relevant bosses of the tier. If your logs are private, please change your Warcraftlogs login and list the username/password here so we can access your logs. If you aren't comfortable listing it publicly, please PM it to Palin privately on these forums. Please remember to change your WCL login again a few days later after we've reviewed your application.

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/character/ ... en/droidxi

9. Of the above logs, please do a quick analysis of what fights you did well on, what went wrong on certain fights, etc. Use this chance to explain any context behind good/bad logs.

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/MY ... iew=replay

This is a replay of my best parse for Mythic Varimathras. I believe it is a very well rounded boss fight and shows that I am able to do mechanics while keeping up on the dps meter. Constantly having to put my transcendance down in order to keep teleporting back to the group to perform the Necrotic debuff mechanic is vital to the boss kill. Missing one escort is a wipe. Missing one teleport is most likely a wipe. Alot rides on how well the 3rd tank can perform this roll. While performing this role I was also able to parse an 89. While not orange like I would love I do not have 100% uptime on the boss.

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/YB ... iew=replay

This is a replay of Mythic Coven. One of the harder bosses for me to parse well on. If you fast forward the replay to 3 min 48 seconds, you will see the Amanthul adds just about to spawn. I should of played better here. I did not realize that all the golgannath adds were dead. I thought we still had 1 alive so I was not going to move the boss to the Amanthul adds so we didn't risk anyone zapping one another. Because of my misplay I and some melee missed out on cleave damage by dpsing the southern most amanthul add with the boss. I should of been posistioning the boss next to the add at 28.34, -126.67. Once that add was dead posistioning the boss next to the add at 28.52, -126.19. This would of resulted in a quicker boss kill time and a better parse for everyone.

10. Can your PC handle WoW at high effects (Lust, Scorp Room, etc.)?

Yes it can. I'm not too big into computer specs and whatnot, but in February I did purchase a new PC to combat problems I was having (mainly disconnects) and I have not had a problem since (thank God)

11. Please include a SS of your raiding UI. IF A KEYBINDING IS NOT SHOWN NO YOUR FRAME, PLEASE EXPLAIN AND list any relevant keybinds not shown in the screenshot. Make sure we can see everything that pops up in a raid, meaning take the SS in combat in LFR or something of the like so we can see your boss mods, timer positioning, WeakAuras, raid frames, etc.

12. Tell us a bit about yourself. Age, gender, work/school, hobbies, etc. Add anything else you feel is pertinent.

My name is Keith. I am 33 years old and currently working as the Head Chef at Tift Regional Medical Center. I served in the United States Army from 2003-2008. I am 6'7 330 pounds so I'm a pretty big dude but a nerd at heart. I enjoy all types of sports besides soccer and hockey. Have never been into them. I also enjoy spending time with my family. Overall I'm pretty low key guy that just enjoys having a good time no matter what i'm doing.

13. Out-of-game contact information - Discord tag, Battle.net ID, etc. Some way we can contact you besides these forums.

Hi Droid, thanks for your consideration with us and taking the time to write a detailed app - we appreciate the effort you put into it.

Your app looks very solid and your logs showcase a high level of DPS maximization as a tank. I'll be honest, your guild history is extremely worrisome for me though. You've probably popped through more guilds than anyone I've seen apply in a long time. Some items like this...

The hours were going to be rough but I was going to try and manage it. Unfortunately, at the time my job had me working mid-days and after two weeks I decided it would not be good for me or the guild to continue with this trial because the times were way to stressful.

....Make it seems like you are very laissez-faire choosing new guilds and don't put a ton of foresight into whether its a great fit for you or something you can realistically manage.

I also see in your logs you were with Monster here in Mal'ganis for a point in ToS (https://www.warcraftlogs.com/rankings/c ... #boss=2038) but didn't disclose, any reason why? What caused you to leave them prior to killing KJ? Looking at timeline looks like you joined after they killed KJ, Trialed/farmed for a few weeks, then moved to Whiskey Brigade.

This doesn't quite make sense to me if you don't mind going into a little more detail? I would think you'd welcome playing with people you had previously raided with again and support them joining your new guild? Why leave a guild you enjoyed over a personal matter like this?

The reason I ask all these questions is we're looking for a long term tank. We want someone who will be with us for all of BFA, if no longer. We have the luxury of being really picky with our tank search at the moment and we aren't looking to do this again in a few months in the middle of BFA progression. Your history has a ton of flight risk red flags, and we don't want to invest in you only to find in a few months you want to go raid with friends, or can't make the times due to a schedule change, or have a gripe with something and can't problem solve it vs just choosing to leave. Or just wanting to join a more progressed guild.

If you don't mind adding some context to the above, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Palin,

First off thank you for a timely response. Sorry I am now just replying, just got off work at 130.

You have definitely pointed out very poor decisions i have made. I am willing to talk all of them out. I have always been the type of person that doesn't like to live in limbo, whether it be real life or in-game. Being without a guild is hard for me especially if i'm playing as much as I currently am. Since I began raiding again in HFC I have always wanted and still currently want to be in a top-tier guild. But more importantly and this is the most important part to me is I want a family. I want somewhere to say I belong to. I got that feeling from 2 guilds that I have played in since that time. Seriously Casual and Clean Kills. No matter what we were doing it was always fun and "cutting edge" at the same time. Most recently I have been holding onto those feelings with people from Clean Kills that went to Eredar to raid with Whiskey Brigade. They were some really close friends of mine and I enjoyed playing the game very much with them. At the end of the Clean Kills guild, it all seemed to happen so sudden that I didn't know what I wanted to do. All I knew was Goochbuddah (best friend in game at the time) told me he was burnt out and wanted time off). For how long no one not even him knew. And thank you for letting me remember Monster because it did totally pass my mind alot of that time was a blur. I ended up joining Monster about a week or so after CK died. They were advertising in trade chat that they needed a tank for rekills so I sent a tell and ended up raiding with them for about 4 or 5 weeks. After about 4 weeks off Gooch came back and said that he was rearing to go again and by that time the 5 or so people seemed to be refreshed and wanted to raid. Holding onto those feelings from Clean Kills I decided it would be best for me to go raid with them. Eredar was the place Gooch found, so we all left.

Eventually playing with my friends was getting tiresome when we were carrying that guild through most of ABT. We had thrown the idea around about trying to find another guild with better progession, but everytime we were about to make the move Gooch or one of the other players didn't want to pull the trigger for whatever reason. I just grew tired of waiting and holding onto those feelings. Along with no progressing with Whiskey Brigade as much as I know we could of somewhere else, my friends also stopped playing as much. Mainly only logging onto raid for the week. I recently sat them all down to discuss how I was feeling about this whole ordeal. I informed them that I needed and wanted a change. They all agreed that a change was needed, so I parted with Whiskey Brigade for good.

The whole WRONG situation was a combination of things that led me to that decision. The one I mentioned just happened to be the straw that broke the camels back. Would I of loved to play with some of my old guildies in this new guild yes obviously I would of loved it. I just did not at the time think it was appropriate to poach them. Why would he not come to me first and ask if anyone of them would be interested in joining? That is not really the point here sorry. Another reason that led me to my decision to leave WRONG was the fact that people making the same mistakes over and over where not being held accountable. After progressing through and killing Argus, we did not rekill him in 3 weeks. The first two weeks we only got 7 attempts in on him because it took us almost another 70 pulls to kill Aggramar. Reprogging is a thing I get it. We had a big enough roster at the time to sit people constantly making mistakes. I know no one is perfect especially me, I just honestly felt like we were smashing our heads against a wall and expecting new results every time.

As i have mentioned earlier in my heart I just truly want to find a new stable home. That is all i want more then anything. I have made mistakes there is no denying that. If i could go back and change the way I approached things I would. What I would change I'm not 100% certain. I would like to look forward now and start a new. I promise you I would be a great asset that can bring alot to a raid group. I am just asking for a chance to rewrite some wrongs I have made over the past year.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Droid, thanks for your patience as we deliberate. At this time we've decided to go another direction and Trial another tank applicant we had. Things can always change quickly - if we are searching again in the next few weeks we'll check in and see if you're still looking for a new guild as well. At this time we're going to close your app but I will reach out to you down the line if the spot reopens before BFA. Thanks so much for your interest again and sorry we couldn't offer anything immediately. Best of luck in your continued search and take care.
